On 17 March 2022, shipping company P&O Ferries discharged 800 members of its shipping staff from various ports. The termination of employment, which came swiftly and "with immediate effect", understandably shocked many employees, causing P&O to be heavily rebuked.
Overall, despite their controversial means of sacking and managing to amass a 51.8% spike in profit in the process, the lack of fair notice given per contractual terms and violation of trade union regulations have provided grounds for P&O's investigation.
